Course Description/Agenda

Preparing for the Baby Boomers…Altering Long Term Care Services

The MDS is a powerful tool for implementing standardized assessment and for facilitating care management. The MDS 3.0 has been designed to improve reliability, accuracy and usefulness. These improvements have profound implications for resident care and public policy. The new focus is to be at least as much on Quality of Life as Quality of Care. Meeting the challenge of 77 million baby boomers who are entering the long term care system will alter our method of providing services.

Join us at this seminar where an experienced professional will provide section-by-section (A–Z) instruction on the implementation of the MDS 3.0. Many items now rely on the resident interview process. Rita Spak, a 30+ year national consultant, will provide basic training in implementing the MDS 3.0 in your assessment process. Assessment protocols to include the new quality of life-focused items will be discussed, as well as the altering of our services to address the needs of exploding baby boomer population.

  • • Clarify the revisions to Quality of Life Tags
  • • Examine the changes to Environment sections
  • • Prepare for the challenge of the baby boomers—how are they different from patients in the past?
  • • Determine how to use the MDS 3.0
  • • Coordinate Care Area Trigger Summaries
  • • Integrate Quality of Life changes into your care plan
