VMware View: Desktop Fast Track [V4.5]

Course Description/Agenda

In this hands-on course based on VMware® View™ 4.5 and VMware ThinApp™ 4.5 and 4.6, applications-oriented administrators will build skills on the VMware View suite of products: VMware View Manager, VMware View Composer, and VMware ThinApp. You will gain the knowledge and skills to virtualize Windows applications with ThinApp and to choose the best deployment and updating processes for your environment. You will learn a methodology for analyzing and designing a View solution for the VMware vSphere™ infrastructure.

This fast-paced, extended-hours course includes the content of the following courses:

  • VMware View: Install, Configure, Manage
  • Application Virtualization with VMware ThinApp
  • VMware View: Design Best Practices

It also includes a prepaid voucher for the VMware Certified Associate 4 - Desktop exam.

Certification:

This course is recommended as preparation for the following certifications:

  • VMware Certified Associate 4 - Desktop (VCA4-DT)
  • VMware Certified Professional 4 - Desktop (VCP4-DT)
  • VMware Certified Advanced Professional - Desktop (VCAP-DT)

What You'll Learn

  • Features and operation of View, View design principles, and ThinApp operation
  • Install and configure View components
  • Create and manage dedicated and floating desktop pools
  • Deploy and manage linked-clone virtual desktops
  • Configure and manage desktops that run in local mode
  • Configure secure access to desktops through a public network
  • Use ThinApp to package applications
  • Major components of the ThinApp architecture
  • Modify Package.ini parameters to increase the variety and complexity of applications that can be virtualized
  • Use Application Link to dynamically link application components such as Microsoft .NET to multiple applications
  • Use Application Sync to update applications deployed from servers
  • Troubleshoot problems with ThinApp packages
  • Identify design goals, requirements, and constraints
  • Information that is required for design decisions
  • Situations that benefit from best-practice recommendations
  • Use the recommended design process
  • Analyze design choices in the following areas:
    • View Manager infrastructure
