CIPT2 - Implementing Cisco Unified Communications IP Telephony Part 2 v8.0

Course Description/Agenda

This hands-on course focuses on advanced installation and configuration of Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) v7 and v8 in global, multisite networks. You will learn how to build the system from scratch to provide:

  • A variable-length on-net dial plan supporting overlapping extensions, as described in Cisco's Unified Communications System Release 8.x SRND
  • Remote site survivability (SRST and SRST with CME) bandwidth management
  • Mobility features, such as device mobility and extension mobility, used in networks with multiple sites
  • Survivability for remote sites during WAN failure
  • Automated alternate routing (AAR) to deliver calls over the public switched telephone network (PSTN) if no bandwidth is available

Since globalization is key in today's business world, you'll learn how to use local route groups and global transformations to simplify the dial plan and prepare for globalization without implementing E.164 dialing. Then, you will investigate deploying E.164 and explore the challenges of globalization presented by the North American Numbering Plan (NANP).

What You'll Learn

  • Issues in multisite deployments and their solutions
  • Implement a variable-length on-net dial plan without globalization supporting multiple sites with overlapping extensions
  • Use new v7 and v8 features, including local route groups and global transformations
  • Transition to a globalized E.164 dial plan
  • Issues with globalization in the NANP
  • Implement call-processing resiliency in remote sites using SRST, MGCP fallback, and CUCM Express
  • Implement CAC to manage calling and prevent oversubscription of the IP WAN
  • Implement mobility features such as CUCM Device Mobility and CUCM Extension Mobility
  • Explore the use of gatekeepers and SAF for intercluster routing
  • Configure and implement solutions to reduce bandwidth requirements in the IP WAN
  • Implement H.323 and Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) gateways
  • Call Control Discovery (CCD) and the Service Advertisement Framework (SAF)
  • RSVP and SIP Precondition

Labs

Global Knowledge Unified Communications Lab Topology

Our investment in enhanced and exclusive labs means you get the experience you need using current software and hardware in North America. No other training company offers a unique, real-world lab solution like ours.

Cisco Unified Communications labs are based on pods. Two students form a team and have control of one pod, referred to by the letter N. The logical topology for a Global Knowledge Unified Communications pod is illustrated in the lab topology diagram for this course. A central Call Manager Cluster, deployed by your instructor, is used to provide an IP telephony test environment that includes a simulated PSTN complete with 3-digit service codes, overlapping 7- and 10-digit patterns, and 11-digit and international patterns. Each pod also contains 2811 Integrated Services Routers running IOS 15.0(1)M2. The PSTN is accessible via a PRI, FXO ports, and SIP trunks. Global Knowledge lab topologies include Headquarters, Branch A, Branch B (with extensions that overlap with Branch A), and a Frankfurt branch. Headquarters, Branch A, and Frankfurt are illustrated in the figure.

Each pod has three IP phones. Two of the phones are internal, and the third is a test phone used to simulate outside callers. Cisco IP Communicator is used for phones at the HQ and Branch sites. Each pod has a CUCM Publisher.

Global Knowledge Unified Communications Lab Topology: North American Branches

The Global Knowledge lab environment also offers optional legacy labs you can run if desired. A sophisticated telephony simulation is provided, allowing you to configure PRI and FXO connections to the PSTN, T1-CAS DS0-Groups to a channel bank connected to two PBXs, and FXS ports connected to analog phones. Each 2811 router is provisioned with a PVDM2-64 providing DSP resources and a serial card for WAN connectivity. The lab topology for this course illustrates the test environment for student pods 1 and 2 for legacy voice port connections.
